With everything that’s been going on this year, you might have neglected your garden. We certainly wouldn’t blame you, as your mind has probably been elsewhere.

But as we’ve already moved through half of May, it’s time to get your garden back into top shape! That’s why we put together this helpful guide to ensure your garden is ready hosting a BBQ this summer.

Here are some things you can do yourself that will make your garden the perfect place to host BBQs this summer when we’re allowed to celebrate with our loved ones again.

Weed your lawn.

Nobody enjoys sunbathing on a lawn that’s covered in weeds. Although this is a job often best undertaken before now, you can set about removing the weeds in your lawn through with some simple homemade tips.

Instead of telling you all about them here, this super helpful blog by the Family Handyman is well worth a read.

Jet wash your patio

Before having your friends over, make sure you jet wash your patio to remove any dirt that has accumulated over the winter. If you don’t have a jet washer, borrow one for a neighbour, or give us a call and we’ll come out and do it for you.

Scrub the BBQ

Planning a big family BBQ? Don’t leave it until the last minute to deep clean your BBQ. If it’s been lying dormant for a year, it’s going to take a fair amount of elbow grease to get it back up to scratch, so give yourself some time.

Also, check your gas level and make sure you have all your cooking utensils looked out. Frantically searching for essentials at the last minute is enough to stress anyone out.

Mend and paint your fences

You don’t want your nosey neighbours peering through the fence when you’re socialising with your friends! Also, shabby fences just don’t look great.

Repair any broken fence panels and add a fresh lick of paint. It’s amazing what attractive fencing can do for your garden.

Clean up after your animals

This might sound obvious, but it’s necessary! If you have a pet, make sure their business isn’t lying around when you welcome people over for a BBQ.

You might also need to treat certain areas of your lawn if they’ve become discoloured. This post from Nutri Lawn tells you how to fix your grass that has been damaged by your beloved pet!
